My Philosophy to Helping:
Hello there, and welcome. I am a mom to two wonderful boys and we recently moved to Sarasota, FL from Rhode Island. I started working in the Mental Health field in 1989 in a Community Mental Health Center in Rhode Island. My decision to work in this field was fueled by my observations of my mom's experiences with mental health treatment. As long as I can remember, I knew that I was going to make a real difference in people's lives. I knew that I had a strong compassion for people and that I would approach treatment in different, varied ways from what my mom experienced. I respect all individuals and I can see the good in everyone. I treat each person like they are worthwhile and I believe that we can all gain a higher quality of life. Sometimes everyone needs a little help to accomplish this and that is where I come in! I am constantly looking for new and effective treatments that can also be pleasant and enjoyable. I am a huge animal lover and I believe that animals enrich our lives and trigger our natural compassion for others. This is why I incorporate animals in my practice. There is nothing more uplifting than to be greeted by two wagging tails.
More Info About My Therapuetic Approach:
I believe that many therapeutic approaches should be offered to increase patient wellness. I offer animal-assisted therapy, interactive metronome, and neurofeedback. These approaches are quite effective, fun and are great for those who find it difficult to verbalize their feelings or those who find talk therapy challenging. Interactive metronome is very exciting for me as a result of this treatment, I have seen remarkable inprovement in multiple areas including, ADHD, Autistic Spectrum, Cognitive improvements including memory, focus and organization.
I specialize in treating: mood disorders, ADHD, anxiety, OCD, adjustment disorders, phobias, relationship issues, loss, caregiver stress, cognitive changes, all issues faced by the LGBTQ community, trauma, school issues, work issues, self esteem issues, autistic spectrum disorders, sensory processing issues, social skills, divorce and many more.
For convenience, I offer Video Conferencing Therapy and you don't have to be a computer geek to use this approach. Video conferencing is a great way for therapy to be accessible and it allows patients to attend sessions while away from home, have hectic schedules or are home bound.
I accept many insurances and offer a sliding scale fee schedule.
Why Going to Therapy Does Not Mean You are Weak or Flawed:
Going to therapy is no different than going to a doctor for a physical problem. As a society, we tend to look at emotional well being as a skill or as a matter of will power without considering the physiological affects of stress. Stress can create profound physical changes including changes in body chemistry which can lead to physiological depression or anxiety. For many people going to therapy can improve quality of life, physical health and remove obstacles to personal growth. In therapy, I like to remind people that emotional well being has a behavioral and physical component and I am here acting as an investigator and a coach. Therapy is a team effort and anyone can use direction once in a while.
I am also certified in divorce mediation. My interest in this area evolved from my work with families post divorce and the desire to help families during divorce to decrease stress on all involved. My experience as a psychotherapist affords me the insight into issues that arise as a result of divorce and allows me to assist in the process of anticipating and minimizing such issues.

Hello, my name Is Dr. Nelly de Ridder and I am Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I earned my PhD in Clinical Social Work from NYU. I pride myself in being very open, kind, non-judgmental, easy to speak to and energetic. I believe that seeking therapy takes strength and is an investment in you for you and others around you. I believe that as humans we all have life lessons to share and learn. I see myself as part of a team and I align myself with my clients and will always have their back and best interest in mind.

Hello, and thank you for viewing my profile. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 10 years of experience in the behavioral and mental health field. I recently moved to Florida and I am looking forward to working with families in the Sarasota and Bradenton area.
My career in social work began at The University of Michigan Autism and Communication Disorders Center, where I was involved in several research projects with children varying in ages from 15-months to 18-years old. Following my time in Michigan, I moved to Illinois and worked as a therapist in a private practice for 5-years until relocating to Florida.
My Therapuetic Approach
My interest in the helping field has been present for as long as I can remember. As a child, I was cited as the “Mother Hen” of the classroom on my preschool report card and I was often the person that my peers sought out when they were having a difficult time throughout my school years. I’ve always had a passion for helping others find different solutions to face the obstacles in their lives and I care deeply about the people I work with and how they view their personal successes.
My background includes working with children, adolescents and adults with developmental and learning disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASDs), Selective Mutism, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Depression, Anxiety, adjustment disorders, and disruptive behavior problems in early childhood. I specialize in working with children and adolescents with a wide range of struggles including: developing and maintaining friendships, emotion regulation, peer pressure, bullying, perspective taking, self-awareness, assertiveness, low self-esteem, and executive functioning difficulties. Additionally, I have extensive experience leading social skills groups for children and adolescents within schools, university-based clinics and private practices.
My approach to intervention is interactive, collaborative and supportive. I believe in integrating multiple modalities when teaching new strategies, including video clips, worksheets, and role-playing to aid in the generalization of newly acquired skills. I pride myself on customizing unique treatment strategies for each individual, using their personal strengths and interests as starting points as we work together towards reach their goals.
While working with clients, I use research-supported interventions to inform my treatment approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Solution Focused Therapy, Family Systems Therapy, principles from Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), as well as the Social Thinking Curriculum (including SuperFlex and Zones of Regulation).
Why Going to Therapy Does Not Mean that You are Weak or Flawed
I believe that going to therapy is the equivalent of learning to play an instrument or playing on a sports team. In these situations, we are looking to 1) acquire new information from someone with expertise, 2) practice or use the skills that we learned in order to improve our abilities, and 3) have greater skills than we had prior that can be used again in the future. Did you know that these are the same goals and steps used in therapy? The therapeutic process is a venue to learn, discuss, and practice core skills that can be utilized and applied during challenging situations throughout a lifetime.

Hello and thank you for taking the time to read about me. My family and I recently relocated from Connecticut. The desire to relocate was to escape the cold and snowy winters and experience the sunshine, beautiful beaches and the friendly people of the Gulf Coast.
I have been a professional Social Worker for over 37 years and have been a psychotherapist for 13 years.
The decision to become a Social Worker came in the spring of my senior year of college. I was majoring in public health and was preparing to become a high school biology teacher. During my student teaching experience, I realized that I enjoyed the contact with young people more than the idea of having to manage a classroom and teach a subject. It was my uncle, then a high school principal in Connecticut who suggested I look int social work; as they say, the rest is history.
Two of my passions are cars and dogs. I love anything to do with cars; researching, fixing, detailing and, of course driving them. I grew up with dogs and cannot possibly live without one, two or even three of them. I am partial to Golden Retrievers. In my adult life, I have cared for many Goldens; some adopted as older dogs and some raised from puppies, but always loved. I enjoy training them, sharing them and making them important parts of family life and have incorporated them in my professional life.
My Therapeutic Approach:
I believe the central theme to good therapy is the therapist/client relationship. Whether I am working with a child, adolescent, adult, older adult, family or couple, I always encourage new clients to give it a try. I invite them to join me in the office for a first session just to get to know each other. Once the relationship is solidified then, the real work can begin.
I specialize in helping people improve their overall health. Every patient brings something different to the session and I vary my approach to best meet their needs, style and goals. I use a variety of modalities including but not limited to: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, Anger Management techniques, Skills Building and Solutions focused therapy, Emotion Regulation, and psycho-education. I also work very closely with psychiatrists and primary care physicians to coordinate care for individuals who's needs include medication treatment.
I am experienced in conducting comprehensive assessments and utilize screening measures to accurately diagnose what challenges are interfering with optimal health. I am experienced in treating mood disorders, anxiety disorders, OCD, Hoarding, gambling, adult and childhood ADHD, ASD, PTSD, addictions, substance abuse or alcoholism. I also assist with life transitions, for children and adolescents-growing up healthy and making good age appropriate decisions, and for adults coping with divorce, grief and loss, parent-child relationships, post-divorce co-parenting or domestic violence and unexpected life challenges.

Hello, my name is John Mann and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker since 1980. I have experience working with mental health, adjustment disorders, relationship dynamics, self esteem, anxiety, depression, life change, trauma and substance abuse issues with young adults, adults and older adults. My philosophy in helping has always focused on the person and the fostering of a relationship. The establishment; cultivation; and the examination of the therapeutic relationship is key to both understanding how people get stuck in their lives, and how they can move on in the direction they want their lives to flow. I do not believe that people are “broken”, needing to be fixed by a professional. Rather, I believe that more often than not, people are simply stuck or preoccupied with unworkable; non-productive, or self-limiting ways of thinking, behaving; and/ or feeling. Sometimes people have a family history and pre-disposition of depression, anxiety, mood disorders, etc. These processes and pre-dispositions can limit your ability to be fully present or engaged in the here and now and may require a multi-faceted approach. We can all struggle with things like depression/anxiety/worry/resentment/anger/ and/or self consciousness/ self-doubt. Often simply figuring out, what the obstacles are, who they are as a person, where they want to be, and how to get there is extremely productive. During each individual’s journey, the development of coping skills is critical. Sometimes referrals to support groups, 12 step groups or to a psychiatrist for medication evaluation is discussed and included in the overall plan towards reaching ones goals.

I earned my master’s degree in social work from Tulane University in New Orleans and I’m a certified Gestalt therapist. I like to use a holistic approach in my work with clients, which means I value the connection between our mind, body and spirit, and believe it can be helpful to incorporate any spiritual beliefs that you have into our work together (if you are interested in that) and I respect all religious beliefs and practices.
I offer individual, couples, family and group therapy and have expertise in trauma, grief and loss, anxiety and depression, abuse, anger management, eating disorders, substance abuse, career counseling, transgender and LGBTQIA+ issues.
I take an eclectic approach and incorporate different aspects of Gestalt Therapy, IFS, CBT, Mindfulness, Hypnosis, Progressive Muscle Relaxation and Creative Visualization into my practice.

I believe healthy people go to therapy! If you fell and hurt your knee or shoulder and were in physical pain, you probably wouldn’t think you were weak or flawed to have physical therapy, because it would help you heal and get back to living your life! I think the same is true if you are experiencing emotional pain, psychotherapy can help you heal so that you can get back to living your life with more happiness, hope and wellbeing.
I think the process of therapy is like going on an archaeological dig, where we look for buried treasure and discover hidden resources inside of you that can bring you insight, healing, and relief from the pain and discomfort you may be feeling. Together we can explore your patterns of thinking and interacting that may be preventing you from getting your needs met, so that you feel more capable and confident and are able to enjoy your life.
